Why should I have a Survey?

Pre-Purchase

The Pre-Purchase survey is an important part of buying your new boat. Before buying a boat you should know what you are handing over thousands of pounds for. A Pre-Purchase, also referred to as a 'full survey' is an inspection of the whole boat, inside and out, rigging, electronics, stern gear and more. This will help with reassurance that you are buying in good faith.

A sea Trial is also recommended with this so the mechanical equipment can be seen running and for added expertise, a marine engineer can be arranged to be on the sea trial with prior notice we have built up a network of reliable engineers or you may bring a mechanic of your choice.

By doing a full survey and sea trial you can get the best picture of your potential buys seaworthiness.

Insurance Survey

An insurance survey is generally requested to ensure the yacht is in a condition in accordance with your policy regards flood, fire and safety issues. This includes hull, topside and superstructure condition, coatings condition, moisture content (GRP and wood), metal plating thickness (steel and aluminium), skin fittings and seacocks, cathodic protection, stern and steering gear, internal structure, bulkheads, hatches/windows/portlights, mooring systems,  gas installation, electrical installation, fuel installation, bilge pump installation, machinery installation, fire fighting and life-saving equipment. If it is a sailing yacht then the mast, rigging and all attachments/reinforcements are also checked.

Hull Survey

This is the most basic pre-purchase survey we carry out. If the potential buyer is satisfied with the condition of most of the yacht or boat they are planning to buy but wants to be sure of the actual structure of the vessel, the survey can include details on steering, skin fittings and stern gear as well as hull, deck and superstructure.
